Robert Stanley Layfield's Obituary
Robert Stanley Layfield, 89, passed peacefully away on Monday, March 25, 2019, just two months shy of his 90th birthday. Memorial Services will be held at Watson-Hunt Funeral Home on Friday, March 29, 2019, at 11:00 AM. The family respectfully asks that donations be made in lieu of flowers to the American Cancer Society, Post Office 22478, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, 73123.
Robert was born to the late Hilary E. and Julia LeBlanc Layfield in Mobile, Alabama, on March 25, 1929. After he graduated from Murphy High School, he joined the Army and served in the 101st Dixie Division. Robert earned many certifications in electronics throughout the years. He also worked on the flight line and spent time as an aircraft mechanic at both Brookley Air Force Base, in Mobile, Alabama, and Robins Air Force Base, in Warner Robins, Georgia. Robert was married to Margaret Inez Layfield and in 1966 they made Warner Robins their home. He was a faithful member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. Along with his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings.
Left to cherish the memories they shared with Robert are his children; Constance Mary Eden of Warner Robins, Catherine L. Smith (Royce Edward) of Monroe, Georgia, and Patrick Anthony “Butch” Layfield of Fort Valley, Georgia; his grandchildren, James P. Goodwin III, Shauna S. Robertson, Robert Tyler Goodwin, Marka’ E. Smith, and Blake Layfield; and his great-grandchildren, Kailey Goodwin, Kinsey Goodwin, Lexi Goodwin, Jena Grace Robertson, and Finlee Kate Smith.
