Mr. Dawkins was born in Laurens, South Carolina, on October 21, 1930, to the late William L. Dawkins and the late Mattie Garrett Dawkins Smith. Upon graduation from Laurens High School, he married his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Betty Sue Blakely. Henry enlisted in the U. S. Navy where he proudly served his country and fought in the Korean War. In 1973, he moved his family to Perry, Georgia, where he lived for fifty years. During that time, Henry was employed with Davis Company for many years. He loved living in Perry and raising his family in the Perry Community. Mr. Dawkins was thrilled to be elected to Perry City Council and represent the families and friends in his district, because he always wanted to make a difference. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Perry and a Mason.
Mr. Dawkins was preceded in death by his mother, Mattie L. Dawkins Smith; his father, William L. Dawkins; his brother, Michael R. Dawkins; and his sister, Harriette A. Green.
