Robert Burns 'Bobby' Jones' Obituary

Robert Burns "Bobby" Jones, III, 71, passed away on Tuesday, November 26, 2013. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, November 29, 2013, at 3:00 p.m. at Perry United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00, the hour preceding the service, in the sanctuary at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests contributions to Georgia State Golf Foundation, 121 Village Parkway, Building 3, Marietta, Georgia 30067.
Bobby was born in Bibb County to the late Robert Burns Jones, Jr. and Ella Belle Lasseter Jones. A 1960 graduate of Perry High School, he graduated from Georgia Southern College, where he was the Captain of their First Golf Team from 1961-1964 and a member of Delta Sigma Pi Business Fraternity. A lifetime resident of Perry, he was the Personnel Manager for Kellwood. Later, he was a self-employed insurance agent until he retired in 1996. He was a former member of the Kiwanis Club of Perry. A well-known golfer throughout the state, Bobby was very involved in leading young men in the game. He was a member of the Georgia State Golf Association, where he served in various capacities, including Secretary, Director, Senior Director, and Director Emeritis, through the years. Bobby was the Chairman of the GSGA Jr. Golf Program for 23 years. He was an honorary member of Houston Lake Country Club and Perry Country Club. He shot a Hole-In-One 3 times in his life - Perry Country Club, Columbus Country Club, and The Country Club of Dothan, Alabama. He was a member of Perry United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his sister, Susan Jones Lee.
Left to cherish the memories of Bobby are his loving wife of nearly 42 years, Laurie Powell Jones of Perry; his son, Reverend Robert Jones of Perry; a number of nieces and nephews and cousins.
