LTC. (Ret.) Richard J. Meagher 08-15-1930 to 10-23-2016. Devoted and Loving Father and Husband to Gisela L. Meagher of 61 years an his 7 children, Suzanne (Richard) Meadows, Kathleen (Larry) Hinman, Joe (Shannon), Bill (Beth), Sharon (Johnny) Gaspard, John (Patty) and Jim (Mary), 15 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Born in Houston, TX. A graduate of Auburn University and a 23 year Army Veteran serving 3 tours of duty in the Korean War and Vietnam War. Richard started and owned a successful General Contracting Company in Northern Virginia, for 30 years, before retiring to North Umberland County, VA. He was a family man who stayed involved in all of his children's many activities. Richard enjoyed spending time with his family fishing, hunting, boating, coaching his children's youth sports teams, and cheering on his beloved Auburn Tigers. He served his country with honor, integrity, and unwavering commitment, and built a successful life in Alexandria, VA. His family and friends will miss him dearly. War Eagle! Services will be held at Serenity Funeral Home in Theodore, AL on Saturday, October 29, at 5 pm. Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery on January 19, 2017 at 9 am.
