RAYMOND J HOOTS's Obituary
PERRY-
Raymond Jackson Hoots, Jr., 78, of Perry, Georgia, was called home to be with his Lord, February 22, 2024. He was born in Winston-Salem, North Carolina on May 20, 1945, to Raymond Jackson Hoots, Sr. and Reva Bertrice Smitherman Hoots. He graduated from North Carolina State University with a degree in Textile Engineering. In 1969, he married Ann Cleveland, of Fort Valley, Georgia, and together they raised three sons: Matthew, Benjamin, and Kent.
Raymond’s career path included management at Firestone Tire & Rubber Company in Gastonia, North Carolina, and Bowling Green, Kentucky; peach and pecan farming in Fort Valley, Georgia; and plant manager of Harmony Grove Mills in Cleveland, Georgia. In 2017 he retired as executive director of Cooperative Purchasing Agency in Cleveland. In all cases his success was marked by his gift as a manager of people. He was a man of high integrity, loyalty, good humor, and compassion. He loved spending time in the outdoors and supporting his grandchildren’s endeavors, even if it meant driving hours to do so. He left a lasting legacy with the lives he touched and influenced.
He served as an elder at Fort Valley Presbyterian Church and later was active at Nacoochee Methodist Church in Sautee, Georgia.
Raymond is survived by his wife Ann, his brother Michael (Barbara), his sons, Matt (Lollie), Ben (Kristin), and Kent (Julie), and his grandchildren Meredith, Britton, and Margaret (Matt); Katherine Ann, Win, and Elle (Ben); Frankie and Eli (Kent).
