Putney Goodwin's Obituary
James Putney Goodwin, Jr., 67, passed away on Sunday, August 30, 2015. A Memorial Service to honor Putney's life will be at 11:00 Saturday, September 12th at Watson-Hunt Funeral Home in Perry, GA. Interment with military honors will be in Parkway Memorial Gardens immediately following the service.
Putney was born in Columbus, Ohio, to the late James Putney Goodwin, Sr. and Frances Marie O'Rourke Goodwin. He graduated from Warner Robins High School, University of Georgia, and Ft. Rucker Air Traffic Control School. He proudly served our country in the US Army, serving 2 tours in Viet Nam in the 12th AVN Battalion, receiving a Purple Heart and an AVN Ribbon. Putney was a long-time resident of Warner Robins, where he served as the Houston County Clerk during the late 1970's and early 1980's. He was instrumental in writing and winning the Grant to develop the Houston County Courthouse Annex on Carl Vinson Parkway. Putney began working for Civil Service contracting at Robins Air Force Base, then transferred to Hurlburt Field, Florida, was stationed in Bahrain, traveled throughout the Middle East, and finally retired at Scott Air Force Base in Belleville, Illinois. He was of the Catholic faith and was currently living in Belleville, Illinois.
Left to cherish the memories of Putney are his two sons, James P. "Trey" Goodwin, III (April) of Tampa, FL, and Robert Tyler Goodwin of Belleview, IL; his sister, Nancy Goodwin Brown of Stone Mountain, GA; his brother, Tim Goodwin (Dell) of Dothan, AL; two nieces; two nephews; and three granddaughters.
