Otis Lee Whitten, 86, passed away at the Heart of Georgia Hospice on Friday, August 30, 2013.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 4, 2013 at the First Baptist Church of Perry with burial in Evergreen Cemetery. Reverend Jamie Powell will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Gideons International, P.O. Box 140800, Nashville, TN, 37214 or Hospice of Houston County, 103 Westridge Drive, Warner Robins, Georgia 31088. Mr. Whitten was born in Newton County and was the son of the late Walter Hoyt and Mattie Moon Whitten. He served in the U.S. Army during World War ll. A graduate of Perry High School, class of 1944, he was a very good athlete who played baseball and basketball. Even after high school, he played on several local teams including a Penn Dixie Baseball team and he coached Little League. Mr. Whitten was retired from Civil Service at RAFB. A member of the First Baptist Church of Perry, he was in the Barnabus Sunday School Class, a Deacon, and was a member of Gideon International. An active member of Perry Country Club, he loved golf and shot his age many times.
Left to cherish his memory are cousins; Saralyn Buzen and Sandy Parker; niece, Cindy Ramsey; nephew, Dana Whitten; love of his life, Kay Johnson; and a world of close friends.
