Life Legacy
PERRY-Opal Maroney Brackett, 91, passed away on Wednesday, May 17, 2017, at Church Home Rehabilitation and Healthcare after an extended illness. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 19, 2017, from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Watson-Hunt Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, May 20, 2017, at 4:00 p.m. in the Chapel at Watson-Hunt Funeral Home. Interment will be in Perry Memorial Gardens immediately following the service. Mrs. Opal was born in Duck Springs, Alabama, to the late Elbert and Paralee Brewster Maroney. She was a homemaker all of her life. She took great pride in keeping her home clean and pleasant, creating a wonderful environment in which to raise her family. Mrs. Opal was an avid gardener and loved butterflies. She was sure to plant butterfly bushes along with her roses and other flowers, of which she took such great care. She was a master seamstress and spent many hours sewing, making clothes, curtains, and alterations for her family. Later in life, Mrs. Opal loved to work crossword puzzles and cheer on her Atlanta Braves while watching them on television. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Elmus Hamby Brackett; her daughter, Vicki Brackett; her son Bobby Brackett; her brothers, Welton Maroney, John B. Maroney, and Fred Maroney; and her sisters, Pauline Collins, Grace Minyard, and Neace Maroney.Left to cherish the memories of Mrs. Opal are her son, Donnie Brackett; her grandchildren, Donna Brackett Kinnas (Ben), Kimberly Brackett Jolley, Ronnie Brackett (Kim), Teresa Brackett, Jeff Brackett (Amanda); her great-grandchildren, Lauren Brackett Myers (Brodney), Hunter Brackett, Taylor Sledge, Dylan Jolley, John Kinnas, Harlie Brackett, and Madeleine Hudgens; her great-great-grandchildren, Memphis Myers, Mason McClintic, Riley Hudgens; her sister, Viva Lee Harris; her brother, Junior Maroney; and many nieces and nephews.Condolences for the family may be left in the online guestbook at www.watsonhunt.com.
