Life Legacy
Olivia A. Stachorek passed away on Tuesday, September 19, 2017. At the family's request, there will be no funeral service. A Celebration of Life will be held for her Georgia 'family' at Christ Lutheran Church on Saturday, September 23, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to The Lord's Table, 208 Langston Road, Perry, Georgia 31069, or Abba House, 6800 Dahlonega Highway, Cumming, Georgia, 30028. Olivia was born on July 8, 1932, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. After moving throughout the states during the depression, her parents and two siblings eventually settled in Los Angeles, CA. She attended Hollywood High School until she met and married Thomas O. Wheatley, with whom she had three children, Thomas O. Wheatley, Jr., Rebecca Wheatley Goehl, and Rachelle Wheatley. Tom and Olivia settled in Paradise, California, in 1969. When Olivia's two youngest children entered high school and junior high, respectively, she began taking classes at Butte Community College and eventually transferred to Chico State University, graduating with honors in 1981 with a BA in Communications. She briefly worked for a local paper in Paradise until Thomas, Sr. died unexpectedly after 32 years of marriage. Soon thereafter, Olivia moved to Jerusalem, Israel, where she worked as a freelance writer. She met Richard Stachorek while visiting Beirut, Lebanon, for an interview with Major Saad Haddad. Olivia and Dick married in 1984 and continued living in Jerusalem for several years. Upon their eventual return to the United States, Olivia and Dick made homes in California, Florida, Washington, and eventually Perry, Georgia. They had been married for 33 years.Olivia was the proud grandmother of four granddaughters, Jenny, Diane, Angie, and Debbie; 15 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
