Funeral Services will be held on Monday, June 1, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Perry Methodist Church with Rev. Tom Carruth officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. Interment will be in Perry Memorial Gardens immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions to Perry Methodist Church, 1002 Carroll Street, Perry, GA 31069, or The Methodist Home for Children and Youth, located at 304 Pierce Ave, Macon, GA 31204.
Nancy was born in Mt. Pleasant, Pennsylvania, and married the love of her life, Donald Alan Golder, at the young age of 19. With two children already, she and Don moved to Perry in 1968. They joined Perry Methodist Church, where she was a faithful, active member for 58 years. Nancy's career outside the home was marked by her skilled hands and caring heart. She began as a factory seamstress in Pennsylvania, a job that showcased her meticulous attention to detail and creativity. Her career path took a diverse turn when she moved to Georgia, where she served as a paraprofessional at Tucker Elementary School, a law librarian at the Perry Courthouse, and a microfilm technician for the Houston County Superior Court Clerk. Each role benefited from her dedication and precision, traits that Nancy carried into all aspects of her life. She was often called "Nanny Golder" for the sweet and nurturing kindness she shared with so many.
Beyond her professional life, Nancy was a homemaker all of her life, continuously working to create a loving and encouraging environment for her family. She was also a master seamstress who loved sewing for others. Her hobbies included knitting and crocheting, and she was particularly fond of making Christmas stockings for everyone she knew. Her generosity extended beyond her immediate circle, as she made lap blankets for cancer patients sharing the warmth of Christians with those in need. She was an active member of the "Sweet Peas," a group dedicated to creating alphabet books for children using recycled Christmas cards. This group's efforts brought joy and learning to many young lives, showcasing Nancy's commitment to her community and her passion for helping others.
Nancy's legacy of kindness and craftsmanship will be remembered by all whose lives she touched with her generous spirit and creative gifts.
Nancy was predeceased by her parents, Ray and Pearl (Hilliard) Shaffer; her sons, Tyler Golder and Richard Alan “Rick” Golder; 6 brothers; and 7 sisters.
Nancy is survived by her loving and devoted daughter, Lorie Gibson (Gary) of Perry; her grandchildren, Megan Caldwell (Adam) of Covington, Jared Gibson (Sarah) of Perry, and Donnie Golder (Tina); her great-grandchildren, Oliver Caldwell, Isobel Caldwell, Noah Gibson, and Dominique Golder; and many, many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
The family would like to extend their sincerest thanks to all of the caregivers and staff at The Phoenix at Lake Joy, Compassus Hospice, and Family Hospice for the gentle kindness and loving care they gave Mrs. Nancy throughout the past year. Special thanks to Mrs. Betty for always being there when needed.
