MRS. CHET PITTS's Obituary
PERRY, GA –
Chester Maude “Chet” (Patton) Pitts, 91, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 22, 2025, after an extended illness. At her request, all services will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105-3678.
Chet was born in Oakland, Mississippi, to the late Mildred Louise (Hughes) and Raymond Thad Patton. After graduating from high school in Memphis, Tennessee, she enjoyed a successful career as a beautician and became a master cosmetologist, operating cosmetology schools in Austin, Texas, and Del Rio, Texas, and teaching young people the trade she had loved for so many years. An Air Force wife, Chet spent much of her life as a homemaker, moving her family to various locations throughout the United States and England. With each move, she created a loving and caring environment in which her family would thrive. Chet sadly experienced the unexpected passing of her loving husband of 25 years, Reuben Edward “Ed” Whatley, Sr., and was blessed with a second opportunity at love when she married Bernard Leo “Bernie” Pitts, Jr. Her passion in life was spending time with her family, whom she dearly loved. For the past 6 years, she had lived in Perry, Georgia, where she moved to be close to her daughter.
Chet was preceded in death by her husband of 25 years, Ed Whatley, Sr.; her husband of 21 years, Bernie Pitts, Jr.; and her sister, Norma Jean Miller.
Left to cherish the memories they made with Chet are her children, Ed Whatley (Denise) of Pinehurst, NC, and Cathy Webster (Garry) of Warner Robins, GA; her grandchildren, Andrea Kinnar (Ken), April Raymond (Jennifer), Stacy French (Terry), Alyssa Ann Hamulak (John David), Haley Gonzalez (Liz); her great-grandchildren, Connor KInnar, Aaron Pedersen (Brianna), Dawson Pedersen, Scarlett Rae Hamulak, Pierce Allen Hamulak, Portia Rose Hamulak, Ava Jade Hamulak, Serena Marie Hamulak, Eddie Gonzalez, and Elizabeth Gonzalez; her great-great-grandchildren, Colten Pedersen, Baylor Pederson, and Abel Lane; her brother, Billy Ray Patton; her sister, Betty Clare Barnett; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Condolences for the family may be left in the online guestbook at https://www.watsonhunt.com. Watson-Hunt Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
