Minnie Lee was born in Alapaha, Georgia, to the late James Lee and Hettie Mae Simpson Stanford and grew up on the family farm in Moultrie. She met and married the love of her life, Talmadge Tomlinson, on May 10, 1942. When Talmadge accepted a position with Civil Service at Robins Air Force Base, the couple moved to Perry. Minnie was a long-time member of First Baptist Church of Perry and was very actively involved. She was a member of the Dorcas Sunday School class for over thirty years, then joined the Willing Workers Sunday School class when the two classes merged. For years, Minnie was a member of the Benevolence Committee, preparing and serving meals to families in their times of loss. She loved anything crafty, but especially enjoyed sewing and quilting, which made her a perfect fit to make bed pads for cancer patients, a ministry in which she was involved with other ladies from her church. She was very meticulous in everything that she did, but becoming a “Grandmother,” as she was lovingly referred to by her grandchildren, was such a joy and delighted “Miss Minnie.” She loved her family and treasured the times spent with them, especially since many of them live in various states across the country. Grandmother took every opportunity to let her family know how much she loved them by always mailing birthday cards, Christmas cards, and cards for any and every occasion. She loved her family dearly, and they will dearly miss her.
Left to cherish the memories they made with Minnie Lee are, her daughter, Barbara Van Rees (Patrick); her grandchildren, Cynthia Morrison (Darius Ejlali), Jon Gouge (Shelly), Dawn Walker, Deborah Phillips, Jennifer Croft, Jason Tomlinson (Dana), Travis Tomlinson (Katie), Christopher Moore, Candace Tomlinson Mabe (Chad), and Adam Tomlinson; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving and devoted husband of 52 years, Talmadge Ezell Tomlinson; her son, Dale Tomlinson; nine brothers; and one sister.
Please sign the online guestbook at www.watsonhunt.com. Watson-Hunt Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
