MILLIE SHUGART SMITH's Obituary
PERRY –
Mildred “Millie” Shugart Smith passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 1, 2023. She was 88. Services will be held on Friday, October 6, 2023, at Perry United Methodist Church. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., and the Celebration of Life service will begin at 11:00 a.m. The Private Interment will be in Perry Memorial Gardens immediately following the services. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions to Perry United Methodist Church, 1002 Carroll Street, Perry, GA 31069.
Millie was born on August 3, 1935, in Unadilla to the late Robert and Inez Turner Shugart. She graduated from Unadilla High School and Crandall Business College. She worked in Civil Service as a Secretary for Personnel Services at the Air Force Reserve Headquarters at Robins Air Force Base. She retired after twenty-seven years of service. Millie was a member of Perry United Methodist Church where she enjoyed being with the IHS Sunday School Class and singing in the JOY Choir. She loved staying in shape and exercising, particularly walking. A long-time avid golfer, she was very competitive. She was a champion golfer at Perry Country Club, a member of the Ladies’ Golf Association, and won their Ladies’ Tournament for fifteen years in a row. Millie had over ten “hole-in-one” golf shots and was inducted into the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame.
Millie was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Louis David Smith, Jr.; and her beloved husband of sixty-seven years, Louis David “Smitty” Smith, Sr.
Left to cherish the memories they made with Millie are her daughters, Debbie Smith of Perry and Vicki Bell (Al) of Byron; her grandchildren, Dustin Bell of Ft. Worth, Texas, and Brandon Bell of Byron; her great-grandchildren, Copeley Bell, Lucas Bell, Judson Pope, Annaleigh Bell, and Asher Bell; her brother, Jack Shugart (Brenda) of Perry; her sister, Merry Bivins of Vienna; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
