MICHAEL DAVID "MIKE" RUCKER's Obituary
SANDY SPRINGS, GA –
Michael David Rucker, 61, formerly of Perry, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Sandy Springs, GA, on Tuesday, December 13, 2022. Services will be held in the Chapel of Watson-Hunt Funeral Home on Friday, December 16, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. A visitation will be held an hour prior to service. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions to an organization that was very special to Mike, The Elizabeth Foundation (elizabathfoundation.org) 2625 Piedmont Road NE, Suite 363, Atlanta, GA 30324.
Mike was born in Mobile, Alabama, on December 22, 1960, to Betty Boswell Rucker and the late Lucian “Pete” Rucker. He was a 1979 graduate of Perry High School where he was STAR Student. He earned an Electrical Engineering Degree from Georgia Tech in 1983, and later a Master’s Degree in Divinity from Western University in 1994. He had a long IT career and was especially touched to earn the 2020 Quality Employee of the Year Award at InComm Payments.
As a creative soul, he was very talented at writing poetry, composing songs, and performing at every opportunity. He gave back to his community by various charity work, most recently combining his love of running and the Elizabeth Foundation through Mike’s March Across Georgia.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lucian “Pete” Rucker, and is survived by his mother, Betty Rucker. He is also survived by his wife, Rodie Rucker; his children, Jessica Thompson (Randall), Rebecca Rucker, and Sarah Rucker; his grandchildren, Adleigh, Ollie and Caitilin Thompson; his sisters, Kelly Gray (Walter), Paula Hall; several nieces and nephews; and two great-nephews.
