MELBA VARESE CHAMBLESS's Obituary
PERRY –
Melba Varese Chambless, 89, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, after a brief illness. Graveside Services will be held on Saturday, November 11, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Dawson, Georgia. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions to the donor’s favorite charity.
Varese was the daughter of the late Clarence and Ercell Chambless. She was born on December 29, 1933, and raised in Dawson, Georgia. After graduating from Terrell County High School, she attended Wesleyan College. Varese was a homemaker all of her life, always working to provide the most loving and encouraging environment in which to raise her family. She was an avid Bridge player and enjoyed hosting her friends on Bridge days. She spent a great deal of time as a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, studying and learning about her ancestors and the forefathers of our country. An animal lover, Varese loved her dogs and was involved in many animal welfare projects through the years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Pine Mountain, Georgia.
Varese was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Jack Chambless and Harold Chambless; and a son, Mark Hillis.
Left to cherish the memories they made with Varese are her sons and daughters-in-law, Chuck and Sylvia Hillis of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Kelly and Carla Hillis of Perry, Georgia; her daughter-in-law, Amy Hillis of Portland, Maine; her grandchildren, Jamie Hillis (A.J.), Taylor Hillis (Jessica), Matthew Hillis (Mallory), Becky Hillis (J. Hughes), Benjamin Hillis (Perrian), and Daniel Hillis; seven great-grandchildren; her brother, David Chambless (Hazel); and her niece, Kristi Chambless.
