Ms. Mary Elizabeth Whatley's Obituary
Mary Elizabeth Whatley died Saturday, March 8, 2014. Mrs. Whatley passed away at home in Wetumpka, Alabama after an extended illness. Mary was born November 5, 1926, to Ike and Mary Harvester in Tampa, Florida. She met her husband of over 64 years, Vernon Moore Whatley, when he joined the U.S. Army Air Corps and was sent for training to MacDill Field, Florida during WWII. They led an adventurous life while Vernon served his country; as his major support Mary served too. They lived in many places from Alaska before it was a state to New Delhi, India and Germany. After the Air Force Mary pursued various interests such as tailoring, upholstery and owning a pilot car business but none were more important to her than her family. Mrs. Whatley leaves her daughter Bobbie Whatley of Grand Bay, Ala., and daughter and son-in-law Kathi and Ronnie Lee of Wetumpka, Ala.; grandchildren Gina Ladnier, Steve (Nicole) Whatley, Vern Whatley, Mike (Dianne Michael) Lindenberger, Jaimie (Ray) Little, Erica Lee, and Aisha Lee; great-grandchildren Casey Greene, Kayla (Anthony) Grosvenor, Kristin Ladnier, Mark Ladnier Jr., Norton Whatley, Miller Whatley, Jason Whatley, and Lindsey (Anthony) Terling; great-great-grandchildren Haily, Christian and Catrina Jernigan; Kasia, Louie, and Claudi Greene, Abby, Austin, Wyatt, Kylea, and Charlie Grosvenor, and Austin Terling; sisters-in-law, Sarah Eckhoff and Grace Harvester, numerous nieces and nephews, and beloved extended family members Rickie Simmons, Nicki Rupe, “Seeing-Eye” Angie Oswald, and Dawn, Dean, Dylan and Devin Ramsey. Mary was preceded in death by her parents Ike and Mary, brothers Arthur, James, and Charles (CT) Harvester. Mrs. Whatley was member of Wallsboro United Methodist Church and a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 178 in Grand Bay, Alabama. Visitation will be held Saturday April 5, 2014 from 11 a.m. to Noon at Serenity Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held graveside immediately following visitation at the Veteran's Wall of Honor section of Serenity Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, Mary requested memorial gifts be sent to either the Eye Bank Association of America at http://www.restoresight.org/ or The American Diabetes Association at http://www.diabetes.org/ Arrangements under the direction of Serenity Funeral Home, Theodore, AL.
