Interment will also be on Wednesday, June 10, 2015, at 3:00 p.m. in Stuckey Baptist Church Cemetery in Glenwood, GA. Visitation will be on Tuesday, June 9, 2015, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Watson-Hunt Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions to House of God Campaign, First Baptist Church of Perry, 1105 Main Street, Perry, GA 31069, or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Honor of Mary Elizabeth Paris, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
Mrs. Weidel was born in Glenwood to the late Henry Martin and Lillian Warnock Wilcher. Raised in a farming family, she graduated from Glenwood High School. She relocated to Middle Georgia, and while working at the phone company in Macon, met the love of her life, Andrew Joseph Weidel. They married and began traveling the world with his military career. Led by Mrs. Weidel's organization, strength, and constant support of her husband, the family moved 27 times over a 23-year period, until his unexpected passing. Upon returning to Middle Georgia as a widow at an early age, Mrs. Weidel chose to further her own education with intentions of becoming a teacher. She graduated from Macon State College and was subsequently an honor graduate while earning her Master's Degree in Education from Georgia Southwestern College. Mrs. Weidel became a teacher with the Peach County Board of Education, where she remained for over 20 years. Upon her retirement, she continued working as a substitute teacher for nearly 15 years. A long-time member of First Baptist Church of Perry, Mrs. Weidel taught Sunday School to toddlers and pre-schoolers for 10 years and the Willing Workers Sunday School Class for many years. Throughout most of her adult life, she enjoyed her memberships in local book clubs and sewing clubs. Mrs. Weidel was a wonderful teacher and was loved by so many of her students and their families through the years. Her passion in life, however, was her family in whom she spent lots of time instilling her strong Christian faith and basic morals to succeed in life. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 23 years, Andy Weidel; a brother, Walden Wilcher; and a sister, Betty Butler.
Left to cherish the memories of Mrs. Weidel are her children, Larry Weidel, Alan Weidel (Teri), and Lilli Ann Nichols (Ned); her grandchildren, Adam Weidel, Bryan Weidel, Leighton Nichols (Jennifer), Candace Perfect (Danny), and Travis Weidel; her great-grandchildren, Emma Rose Weidel, Eli Andrew Weidel, Landyn Jane Perfect, and Lawton James Perfect; her sisters, Edna Roberts and Ruth Daniel; and her brother, Martin Wilcher.
Condolences for the family may be left in the online guestbook at www.watsonhunt.com. Watson-Hunt Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
