Mary Louise Davis Uzzell's Obituary
Mary Louise Davis Uzzell, age 92, of Irvington, Alabama, went to be with her Lord on Sunday, August 10, 2014. The daughter of Frank Warren and Estella Lawrence Davis, she was born August 25, 1921, in Bayou La Batre, AL. Mary Louise was preceded in death by her parents and four siblings, Frances Davis Akridge Nason, Frank Edison Davis, and Allen Henry (Brick) Davis, all of Bayou La Batre, and Estella Mae Davis Walker Shepherd of Fairhope, as well as her two husbands, John Randolph Uzzell and William Edward Uzzell, of Irvington, and Atlanta, GA, respectively.She is survived by her son, John Randolph Uzzell, Jr., of Irvington and two daughters, Mrs. Carol Uzzell May (Bill) and Dr. Kathryn Uzzell Starkey Griffin, both of Mobile. Mary Louise is also survived by five grandchildren, David Wayne May (Julianne) of Spanish Fort; Stephen Brian May (Sarah) of Mobile; William Randolph May (Tracy) of Coden; Louisa Starkey Terrell and Kathryn Cornelia Starkey, both of Mobile, four great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.A member of the First Baptist Church of Bayou La Batre, and a former member of Druid Hills Baptist Church in Atlanta, GA, Mary Louise was best known for her beautiful soprano voice, used for the glory of God. In 2004 she was honored for serving in the choir 78 years, longer than anyone else in the history of the First Baptist Church in Bayou La Batre. She studied voice with Madame Rose Palmai-Tenser in Mobile, sang with the Mobile Opera Chorus, and used her talent for hundreds of weddings, funerals, school events and community gatherings.Mary Louise was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Mobile Chapter. A graduate of Alba High School, she was a faithful wife, loving mother and grandmother, lover of family history, devoted friend, wonderful cook, avid reader, excellent gardener and homemaker.Visitation will be held on August 13, 2014, from 10 am until 12 noon in the sanctuary of the First Baptist Church, Bayou La Batre, AL, followed by a celebration of her life at 12 noon, with interment in the Oddfellows Cemetery. The family wishes to thank the dedicated personnel from Springhill Home Health and Hospice for their loving care to Mary Louise and her family.
