PERRY –
Mary Kathryn Saxon Adkins, 97, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 18, 2022. Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 25, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at Watson-Hunt Funeral Home, followed by the Graveside Service at 11:00 a.m. in Perry Memorial Gardens. Reverend Parker Agnew will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, CHOA, 1575 Northeast Expressway, Atlanta, GA 30329, or your favorite charity.
Mary was born in Elbert County, Georgia, to the late Eddie Frank Saxon and the late Martha Grimes Saxon. Mary was raised in a Methodist household where she learned early on about hard work, sacrifice, and faith in God. She contributed to all aspects of subsistence farming by working the fields, cooking meals, and caring for her younger siblings. While in high school, the family moved to Oglethorpe County where Mary met her future husband, Bill. Married in 1947, the couple eventually settled in Perry in 1956. Mary was a loving and dutiful wife to Bill and mother to their five children. She was a stay-at-home mom until all of the children were in school. Most of Mary’s career was spent as a bookkeeper/payroll clerk for Milton Beckham Construction Company in Perry. Even with a full-time job, Mary maintained all the chores of country living with a large family. After retirement in 1983, she continued to care for her home and family until she entered Church Home at age 91. In the years that followed, she never lost her sense of humor nor her mischievous laugh. Mary was revered and deeply loved by her family. She will be missed.
Mary was preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband of fifty-five years, Will W. “Bill” Adkins; and her sisters, Jean S. Nation and Mildred S. Burt.
Left to cherish the memories they made with Mary are her brother, Eddie Frank Saxon, Jr. of Crawford; her children, Jeffrey Adkins (Barbara) of Appling, David Adkins of Perry, Janemarie A. Smith of Clayton, NC, Van Adkins (Sandy) of Perry, and Kathy Adkins of Perry; her granddaughters, Katie Sheldon (Zac), Natalie Horseman, Erin Montgomery (Woody), Laura Williams, Heather Walters (Kevin), and Rebecca Adkins (Logan Bartholomew); four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Condolences for the family may be left in the online guestbook at www.watsonhunt.com. Watson-Hunt Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
