Marie Thorpe Moody's Obituary
Life Legacy
Marie Thorpe Moody went home to be with the Lord on September 15, 2017. Born in Savannah, Georgia, Marie was always the picture of Southern beauty, grace and hospitality. In 1946, she and her husband, Wilson, settled in Perry where they began a long and wonderful journey that included raising six children. She was a long-time member of First Baptist Church of Perry and the Willing Workers Sunday School class. A believer in education, Marie owned and operated The Humpty Dumpty House kindergarten for 13 years, and encouraged her children and grandchildren to never stop learning and always strive for excellence. She was an animal lover and her kindness to all animals was evident to those around her. Marie served as a flower show judge and arranger for the Georgia Camellia Society and the Garden Club of Georgia, and was a member of the local chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Marie and Wilson enjoyed traveling, and they saw many parts of the world, including Las Vegas, Nevada, Sky Valley, Georgia, Daytona Beach, Florida, Miami, Florida, and Greece. She particularly appreciated the beauty of the Georgia coast and spent many summers there. Marie is predeceased by her husband of fifty-eight years, Wilson Moody; a son, Joel Moody; and a great-grandson, Luke Moody. Marie will be remembered and greatly missed by her surviving children, Woody Moody (Michelle) of Warner Robins, Don Moody of Warner Robins, Marie "Ree" Covington (Larry) of Mobile, AL, Amanda Moody Smith of Macon, and Jim Moody (Marilyn) of Perry; eleven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. The family would like to acknowledge the kindness and support Summerhill Senior Living Community has shown her, especially the nurses and staff of Veranda West Memory Care Unit. Contributions to Heart of Georgia Hospice for their compassionate care of our Mother would be appreciated. The family may be contacted at 350 Spyglass Hill Drive, Perry. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, September 19, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at Crosspoint Baptist Church with interment following in Perry Memorial Gardens. A visitation will be held from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m., the hour prior to the service, in the Sanctuary. Condolences for the family may be left in the online guestbook at www.watsonhunt.com. Watson-Hunt Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
