MARIAN SUTTON AKRIDGE's Obituary
Perry-
Marian Sutton Akridge passed away on April 15, 2024, at the age of 96. She was a resident of Summerhill Senior Living Community in Perry, GA since May of 2015. Visitation will be held on April 28, 2024, from 2:00- 3:00 pm at Watson Hunt Funeral Home with a Graveside Service at Perry Memorial Gardens at 4:00 pm.
Mrs. Akridge was born on September 12, 1927, at her home in Bayou La Batre, AL to the late Harry Leon Sutton and Mary Akin Sutton. She graduated from Alba High School and attended the University of Alabama for a short while prior to marrying the one and only love of her life, Jack H. Akridge. They continued to reside in Tuscaloosa until he graduated with his mechanical engineering degree. Marian has been prepared for this phase of life since the age of 13 when she professed her faith in Jesus Christ and was baptized in the very cold Simonson Creek in her hometown. She moved to Perry with her family in 1966 due to the closure of Brookley Air Force Base in Mobile, AL resulting in the transfer of her husband to Robins AFB for employment. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Perry where she helped for years on the Benevolence Committee. Her care and concern brought years of comfort to those suffering losses or needs.
Mrs. Akridge was the epitome of the perfect homemaker, mother, and friend always putting the needs of others before herself. For several years she volunteered with and then managed the Perry Meals on Wheels program for 14 years. In addition, her love and compassion for others led her to volunteer with Hospice homecare. She visited shut-ins with prepared meals and desserts such as divinity, blackberry cobbler, and homemade wild plum jelly just to brighten their days. She would call, visit, and encourage friends who lost their husbands helping them to move forward with life. She was a true friend and Christian servant in every sense.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her only sister, Evelyn Sutton Roberston of Bayou La Batre, AL, and her youngest son, Gerald Sutton Akridge of Centerville, GA. Mrs. Akridge is survived by one son, Jack Stephen Akridge (Karen) of Perry, GA, and two daughters, Rebecca Akridge Summers (Charles) of Elko, GA and Beth Akridge Bresnahan (Daniel) of Cinnaminson, NJ. Her memory will be cherished by her seven grandchildren, Ray Mitchell, Tara McInvale, Kimberly Pope, Rebecca Prance, Travis Akridge, Carolyn Bresnahan and Jack Bresnahan, as well as 11 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
Condolences for the family may be left in the online guestbook at www.watsonhunt.com. Watson-Hunt Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
