Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until 12 Noon at Watson-Hunt Funeral Home. Graveside Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. in Crossroad Bible Church Cemetery, also known as Society Hill Cemetery, in Crawford County. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
Margie was born on May 23, 1939, in Macon and was the daughter of the late James Tidwell and the late Mary Cody Tidwell Lavender. She grew up in Lizella and always enjoyed playing softball on the county recreation teams. She was introduced by her cousin to Lawrence Jones at the ballfield. They soon married and moved to Perry where they would settle and raise their three children. Through the years, Margie always worked hard to create a loving and welcoming home for her family and friends. She always offered to be the “room mother” for each of her children’s classes at school. She was a Master Seamstress with the Kellwood Company for many years until they closed, and always found time to spend with her own needle and threads cross-stitching, which she loved to do. Margie made numerous masterpieces as gifts for her family and close friends. It became tradition for her to enter a project or two in the various contests at the Georgia National Fair, and was so proud of all the First and Second Place ribbons she won through the years. Margie was particularly thrilled when she became a Faircracker at Georgia National Fair, which she did for over thirty years. It only came around once a year, and for at least ten days in October, Margie put on her green vest full of colorful pins; greeted attendees; assisted with registering, organizing, and displaying Arts and Crafts from exhibitors; and helped reunite parents with children who were momentarily lost in the crowd. It delighted her to share complimentary tickets with her family and friends, but moreover with people she encountered who were less fortunate and may not be able to go to the fair without her generosity and kindness. Margie also grew to love serving her community by spending time at Loaves and Fishes of Perry. The other volunteers became like family to her. For a few years later in life, Margie worked in the cafeteria at Summerhill, again serving her community where she was needed. She savored the long lunches with friends and frequently appreciated a fun and exciting group of friends with whom to line dance.
Margie was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, George Tidwell and Tommy Tidwell; her nephews, Benji Tidwell and Christopher Tidwell; and the father of her children, Lawrence Jones.
Left to cherish the memories they made with Margie are her son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Lynn of Cumming; her daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Jeff Kennedy of Meansville, and Kim Jones and John Barry of Perry; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; her brother, Jimmy Tidwell of Macon; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Condolences for the family may be left in the online guestbook at www.watsonhunt.com. Watson-Hunt Funeral Hunt Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
