Gin lit up a room in heaven when she arrived on the 4th of July! She was a woman of unwavering faith, a devoted follower of Jesus Christ, and a shining example of kindness, grace, and joy. More than anything, Gin treasured her family. She was a devoted wife to James and a dedicated mother to her three children. When the grandchildren and great-grandchildren arrived, a whole new chapter in the Laster family began as she spent time with them, caring for them, and creating lasting memories. Her home was filled with love, laughter, and home cooking when the entire family came together. She cherished the memories made with her three boys, their wives, and all her grandchildren, frequently saying that the most important thing in the world was her three boys and all her grandchildren.
For years she faithfully served our Lord as a Sunday School teacher, sharing God’s love with countless children and families. Her favorite song to teach was “Jesus Loves Me,” which reflected the simple, yet profound faith that guided her every day.
An avid gardener, Gin delighted in planting flowers and nurturing the beauty around her yard. Some say she could grow a rock! One of her favorite plants was the African violet which she shared with many of her family and friends. She loved “digging in the dirt,” she would say - and it showed.
Gin also loved to sing, and to collect rocks. She loved to tell the story of when she was growing up and singing in the kitchen washing dishes with her sisters… her father would chuckle, then laugh out loud. She said he was laughing because she was off key; others would say she was spreading joy. Gin had a beautiful singing voice to which all her children could attest, as she always sang around the house when they were growing up. While she loved to collect rocks, she gently shared that Jesus Christ was the true Rock upon which she built her life and displayed a picture of a rock she knew had the face of Jesus, proving that Jesus can be found anywhere you look in the world, and “her Rock” was proof.
Though she will be deeply missed, her family finds comfort in knowing that she is now in the presence of her Savior. Gin will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her joyful heart, her kindness, and her ability to make everyone she met feel welcomed and loved. What a beautiful testimony to God’s goodness. Rest in Peace, Gin; we will see you soon!
Gin was predeceased by her parents, Ralph and Margaret Black Sttewart; her loving and devoted husband of 65 years, James Lee Laster; her brothers, Lyn Stewart, Clenon Stewart, and Wayne Stewart; and her sister, Lennette Stewart.
