Mrs Lyndall "Dolly" Ladnier's Obituary
Lyndall Rosetta (Childress) Ladnier, a lifelong resident of Bayou La Batre, was called home to be with The Lord on Monday, June 8, 2015. She leaves behind her lifelong love and husband of 55 years, Joseph Elwood “Jackie” Ladnier Jr.; four sons: Joseph E. (Woodie) Ladnier III (Marta), Robert M. Ladnier (Lynn), Jeffrey L. Ladnier (Traci), and Jasen D. Ladnier; three grandchildren: J.E. “Joey” Ladnier IV, J.L. “Jay” Ladnier Jr. and Jackson C. Ladnier: in addition her four brothers: John E. Childress, Frank W. Childress, Tony L. Childress, and Howard Tanner Jr.; three uncles; Hudson Place, Jerry Place, and Blake Place; and many family members, friends and loved ones. She was born on Jan. 12, 1940 to John Wintzell and Dorothy (Place) Childress. On the day of her birth, her older brother climbed on her crib and said, “My Dolly,” while Alma Tillman shouted across the bayou to her father, “What did you get, Wink?” to which he replied, “I’ve got me a Dolly Dimples!” Dolly participated in basketball and as a majorette at Alba High, graduating in 1958. A giving person, she frequently transported her children and many others to school and sporting events, served as a Sunday School teacher at the Bayou La Batre Community of Christ Church, volunteered with the local Youth Boosters Club and Red Cross, fed many hungry people and made the world’s best shrimp and crabmeat gumbo. Pallbearers: Butch Sutton, Hendon Huber, Cleatus Hammack, Mickey Ladnier, Steve Wilson, and Jigger Harbison. Honorary Pallbearers: Vernon Steele and Sissy Johnson. Visitation will be held from 5pm - 8pm on Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at Community of Christ Church and Thursday from 9am - 10am at the church. Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 11, 2015 at 10am at the church. Interment will be in Oddfellow Cemetery.
