Loretta 'Rett' Lucyk Lieberman's Obituary
PERRY-
Loretta "Rett" Lucyk Lieberman, 79, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 12, 2014, after a courageous battle with PSP. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, January 17, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church. The Committal Service will take place at the Columbarium in Perry Memorial Gardens immediately following the Funeral Mass. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations to St Patrick Catholic Church, 2410 Highway 127, Kathleen, GA 31047 or Heart of Georgia Hospice, 1120 Morningside Drive, Perry, GA 31069.
Rett was born in Shenandoah, Pennsylvania, and was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Edward J. Lucyk. In her younger years, she attended Ashland State General Hospital School of Nursing in Ashland, Pennsylvania. She married John C. Lieberman, also of Pennsylvania, and in 1969, they were transferred to Perry with the Pabst Brewing Company where John worked as the Brewmaster and Plant Manager. Rett was a homemaker until her children were older, and then she taught remedial reading in the Houston County School System. Rett generously gave her time and talent to support her church and community. Rett was a faithful member of St. Patrick's Church and served the parish as an Extraordinary Minister, a member of the parish council, and a kindergarten teacher. Recently, she and John were recipients of the 2013 Bishop Garland Award. Rett was active in many civic clubs and volunteered at the Perry Hospital as a Pink Lady for years. She loved to travel, entertain friends (her dinner parties were legendary), and was an avid reader. Rett's passion in her life were her family and grandchildren.
Left to cherish the memories of Rett are her loving husband of 57 years, John Curtin Lieberman of Perry: children, Eric John Lieberman (September) of Perry and Janet Galvin (Tony) of Winter Park, FL; her siblings, Edward Lucyk of Barnesville, PA, and Dr. Daniel Lucyk of Cunnyngham, PA ; her sister-in-law, Margaret Cimei (Anthony) of Westfield, NJ; her sister-in-law, Mary Louizeaux of Plainfield, NJ; and brother-in-law, Dr. Joseph A. Lieberman of New York, NY; her grandchildren, Ryan Eric Lieberman (Courtney) of Valdosta, Matthew John Lieberman of Valdosta, Jacob Anthony Galvin of Winter Park, FL, and Courtney Curtin Galvin of Winter Park, FL; her great-granddaughter, Isabella Danielle Lieberman of Valdosta; and many nieces and nephews who meant so much to her.
The family is so thankful for all the kindness shown by the staffs of the Summerhill Nursing Home, Perry Hospital, and Heart of Georgia Hospice Inpatient Care; her extended family at St. Patrick's Parish; and Rett's great friend and caretaker, Gladys Alexander.
Watson-Hunt Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements. Friends are invited to sign the online guestbook at www.watsonhunt.com.
