Dr. Lloyd George Parnell's Obituary
Dr. Lloyd G. Parnell11/19/1932 - 2/7/2016Age 83, a native of Mashulaville, Mississippi and longtime resident of Mobile, AL passed away on Sunday, February 7, 2016. He was a veteran of the Army, serving from 1953 to 1955. After graduating from Meridian High School (Meridian, MS), he continued his education at Clarke College and then received his BS and Masters degrees from the University of Southern Mississippi. After graduating from USM, he moved to Mobile and started his teaching career at Semmes and later became principal of Tanner Williams and then Baker. After receiving his Doctorate of Education from the University of Alabama he taught at Livingston University (University of West Alabama) for 22 years. Retiring in 1989 after 35 years as an educator in the state of Alabama, he and Millie returned to Mobile. He was a long-time member of Moffett Road Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher. During his retirement years, one of his greatest joys was being a part of Mobile Baptist Builders which allowed him and Millie to take part in many church building mission trips. He was preceded in death by his father, Courtney Lloyd Parnell, mother, Allie Faye Bonner Parnell, daughter, Carol Cunningham, siblings, Frank Parnell, Mary McNeil, Lula Belle Evans and Billy Parnell. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Millie Blackman Parnell, children, Donnis (Terry) McMullen of Mobile, Charles (Sherri) Parnell of Birmingham, son-in-law, Jerry (Leisa) Cunningham of Enterprise, MS, grandchildren, Jonathon (Rachel) McMullen (Busan, Korea), Matthew McMullen of Mobile, and Anna (Steven) Stewart of Atlanta, GA, nephew Ed (Marsha) Evans of Hattiesburg, MS, and other relatives and many friends. Funeral service will be held at Moffett Rd. Baptist Church on Thursday, February 11, 2016 at 2pm with visitation starting at 1pm until service time. Interment will be in Serenity Memorial Gardens.
