PERRY –
Lily Rowena Miller, 82, passed away peacefully on Thursday night, March 28, 2024, with her devoted daughter and other family members by her side. Visitation and viewing will be on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary at Christ’s Sanctified Holy Church. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, April 4, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Christ’s Sanctified Holy Church. Interment will be in the Cemetery at Christ’s Sanctified Holy Church immediately following the service.
Lily was born in Norfolk, Virginia, to the late George and Evelyn Libby Miller. She became sanctified at age 12 and immediately began her journey as a lifelong teacher of the Word. As a member of Christ’s Sanctified Holy Church, Lily was very involved in her church through outreach ministries and was especially dedicated to the children. She was an excellent Bible teacher and was always delighted to teach the lessons at Easter. Christ’s Sanctified in Evans had a bus ministry to pick up kids and take them to church, and Lily thoroughly enjoyed being with the kids and encouraging them to learn the Word of God and form a relationship with God. In fact, Lily adopted one of those bus children, who was in need of a Mother, and loved her as if she were her own daughter. Through the years, Lily was the one who also taught etiquette – how to set the table, write a letter, and talk with people – including many relatives’ children. She was always in a good mood, cheerful and encouraging. Lily was known as the “glue of the family” and the “matriarch” of the CSHC in Evans. She was a master seamstress and loved making smocked dresses. She also enjoyed crocheting, especially blankets for family members and friends.
Lily was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings, George Miller, Doris Dempsey, and Dan Miller.
She is survived by her daughter, Alicia Reese; her brother, Mike Miller; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins; and her grandcat, Simon.
