KATHLEEN –
Orren “Leyon” Roberts passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, just one month before his 70th birthday. Visitation will be on Monday, April 22, 2024, from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel at Watson-Hunt Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Cross Point Church of Perry with Dr. Michael Stovall officiating. Interment will be in Perry Memorial Gardens immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
Leyon was born on May 14, 1954, in Montezuma to the late Elbert Riley Roberts, Sr., and the late Mildred Clarice Poole Roberts. After graduating from Macon County High School, he went to Columbus State College where he earned a degree in Criminal Justice. Leyon soon found his calling when he accepted a job with Perry Police Department. He worked in various positions through the years and retired as a Senior Patrol Officer after thirty-five years of service. His dedication and love of Perry and his community sustained his successful career in law enforcement. In his free time, Leyon enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, working in his yard, manicuring the lawn and shrubs, and nourishing the flowers that he planted each year. He was an avid knife collector and enjoyed sharing that passion with his grandchildren. A very kind and patient man, he loved his wife with all his heart and grew to love his stepsons as his own. Leyon was a Baptist.
Leyon was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Barry Morris Thames and Elbert “Buddy” Roberts, Jr.; and his sisters, Nadine Estes and Mona Lisa Roberts.
Left to cherish the memories they made with Leyon are his loving and devoted wife of twenty-three years, Peggy Guthrie Roberts; his children, Joshua Streetman of Elko, Travis and Amber Layfield Streetman of Elko, and Heather Braddock; his grandchildren, Emma Streetman, Lily Streetman, Walker Streetman, and Gavin Braddock; three sisters, Rita Dunmon (Wayne), Reneigh Miller (David), and Lindie Lou Parker (John); and several nieces and nephews.
Condolences for the family may be left in the online guestbook at www.watsonhunt.com. Watson-Hunt Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
