LaVern Moncrief McKinney's Obituary
HAYNESVILLE –
LaVern Moncrief McKinney, 78, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 13, 2020. Services will be held on Wednesday, September 16, 2020, at Watson-Hunt Funeral Home with the visitation beginning at 3:00 p.m. and the funeral beginning at 4:00 p.m. The Reverend David Fisher will officiate. A private burial will be held at Perry Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions to Haynesville Assembly of God, 806 Grovania Road, Hawkinsville, GA 31036.
LaVern was born in Tennessee and lived most of her life in Haynesville. She was a medical transcriber for over twenty-five years and was well-known in the medical field for her efficiency. She worked for Peach County Hospital, Taylor Regional Hospital, The Eye Center of Central GA, and various private practice doctors during her career. LaVern was a long-time member of Haynesville Assembly of God Church, was devoted to the church, and devoted to her husband, the pastor of the church, Reverend Gene McKinney. She always took care of “Papa Gene” and her son, and eventually her grandchildren; church and family were her life.
Those left to cherish the memories of LaVern are her grandchildren, Mandy McKinney of Haynesville, Melissa McKinney of Ft. Valley, Michael McKinney (Kristina) of Hawkinsville, and Matthew McKinney (Ryan) of Atlanta; and several great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband of fifty-eight years, Reverend Gene Alton McKinney, Sr. and her beloved son, Gene Alton “Tony” McKinney, Jr.
