Katie was born in Columbia, South Carolina, on November 7, 1978, to Harry James Collins III and Robin Wright Collins. She was a graduate of Dreher High School and North Carolina State University, where she was an honor student. Upon graduating, she began teaching in Raleigh, North Carolina, and continued when she returned home to Columbia. Katie had an absolute love for children and her true passion in life was seen when she was teaching. There is no doubt that her students prospered from her dedication and guidance. Katie, like her grandfather, Poppy, never knew a stranger. Her smile and laugh would light up a room. And, like her beloved Poppy, her spirit and love for the Lord was evident in her life. She dedicated her life to the Lord as a youth and served the Lord at Christ’s Sanctified Holy Church, where she was a Sunday School Teacher.
She married Bryan Phillip Call, of Charleston, South Carolina, on April 9, 2011, in Columbia. They welcomed the joy of their life, Harrison James Call, on December 9, 2014. Katie was the most nurturing, attentive, and loving mom to her beloved Harrison. Harrison was a long-awaited blessing, and Katie thoroughly enjoyed life with her beautiful son. Harrison is carrying on the tradition started by his great-grandfather and his mother, for he has a kind and loving spirit.
Katie was preceded in death by her beloved grandparents, Harry “Poppy” and Dot Collins, of Columbia, South Carolina, and William and Matilda Wright, of Augusta, Georgia.
Katie is survived by her husband, Bryan Call OF Lexington, South Carolina; their son, Harrison Call; her parents, Harry and Robin Collins of Lexington, South Carolina; one brother, Will Collins and his wife, Laura, of Lexington, South Carolina; one sister, Stacey Paysinger and her husband ,Daniel, of West Columbia, South Carolina; and a special aunt, Doris Martin and her husband, Wayne, of Irmo, South Carolina; a nephew, Davis Collins; and a niece, Drayton Collins.
Condolences for the family may be left in the online guestbook at www.watsonhunt.com. Watson-Hunt Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements in Georgia, and Thompson Funeral Home in Lexington, South Carolina.
