KALEB EVERSON's Obituary
PERRY, GA-
Kaleb Isaiah Everson passed away unexpectedly of an overdose on Sunday, April 30, 2023, after a long battle with addiction and depression. He was only 19 years old. Visitation will be held on Monday, May 8, 2023, from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel at Watson-Hunt Funeral Home and will be immediately followed by Kaleb’s Celebration of Life beginning at 3:00 p.m. In honor of Kaleb’s life, we ask that the truth be spread, and that awareness be made regarding the ongoing drug crisis. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions to Voices for Awareness foundation, 2453 Industrial Boulevard, Grand Junction, CO 81505.
Kaleb was born in Kingwood, West Virginia, on June 14, 2003. He grew up in Bonaire and Perry, Georgia, and graduated from Perry High School in 2021. He was a member of the JROTC and the Perry Panther Regiment Marching Band. Kaleb loved his family tremendously and had a heart of gold. Anyone who knew him could testify to that. He was kind, smart, funny, and loyal to a fault to those he loved the most. In turn, trying his best to block out all the negatives led him to drugs and his addiction. For years, Kaleb battled demons that some never knew about. Drugs offered an escape from his pain and unsettled thoughts.
After getting in trouble with law enforcement and being court-ordered to attend a rehab facility, Kaleb realized that he truly had an amazing support system and could get through the program. He made it to the third phase and began working. He was learning to be happy again and was so proud of his progress. Kaleb was so proud that he was learning the clean and sober lifestyle was the best choice. During the days leading up to Kaleb’s overdose, he contacted everyone he could to tell them all about his accomplishments.
As mentioned earlier, Kaleb’s family would like to speak the truth about his untimely death. Silence would mean Kaleb’s death was in vain, but if one person’s life is saved by his story, we will tell it a million times more. We (his family) know the pain of his suffering. We know the pain of our suffering. And we know there are thousands of addicts in our world today, and they each have family and friends loving and supporting each of them. It is important to speak the truth, no matter the circumstances, surrounding the drug crisis that is rapidly becoming another epidemic. The truth may be the difference between life and death for someone.
Kaleb was preceded in death by his grandfather, “Pop Pop,” William McGinnis; his grandfather, William Everson, his grandmother, Marlene Dillsworth; “Papa,” Russell Smith; and his son, Asher Holmes.
Left to cherish the memories they made with Kaleb are his grandmother, “Mimi,” Beverly McGinnis (David); his mother, Rebekah Everson (Jonathan); his father, William Everson (Anna); his stepmother, Beth Goulding (K.R.); his “Nana,” Gloria Smith; his uncle, Shawn McGinnis; his aunts, Stephanie Lane (Ronnie) and Martha Starcher (Matt); his brothers, Cameron Boothe (Tasherra), Darian, Zack, Aiden, Cash, and Billy; and his sisters, Ashley Myers (Trey) and Kellie Lang (Sidney).
