Joseph Edmond Ladnier's Obituary
Age 85, passed away on Thursday, April 6, 2017 with his wife and family by his side. Born on September 25, 1931, he was a native and lifelong resident of Bayou La Batre. An Army Veteran, he served two terms as a medic in the Korean War. In 1958, Joe E. and Donnie purchased the trawler “Sea Lady” and began their life in the seafood business. They started Sea Pearl Seafood Company, Inc. as an oyster shop in 1964 and it progressed into a shrimp processing plant they worked together until 1999. After retirement, he enjoyed horse racing, golfing, wine-making and they traveled extensively with their fondest memories of Cape Horn and trips through The Panama Canal. No matter where their worldly travels took them, they always enjoyed coming home to the Bayou and their family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Katie Belle Ladnier and six siblings. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Dawn “Donnie” Castelin Ladnier; children Greg (Jan) Ladnier, Kathy (Andy) Overstreet, and Suzanne Wilson; grandchildren Shawn, Megan, Ashley, Bradford, Britton, Christopher, Cameron and Casey; great grandchildren Stella, Abbey, Ian, Emily, John Thomas, Gianna, Sofia, Cynric, Adele, Dayleigh and Virginia; six siblings; other relatives and many friends. Funeral service will be held at Serenity Funeral Home on Sunday, April 9, 2017 at 3pm with visitation from 1pm until service time. Interment will be in Oddfellow Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to a favorite charity or organization of your choice.
