JOHN A. WILLIAMS's Obituary
PERRY –
John A. Williams, 88, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 15, 2022. Services will be held on Saturday, August 6, 2022, at Perry United Methodist Church with the Visitation from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. The Memorial Service with Reverend Tommy Perkins officiating will begin at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions to Perry Volunteer Outreach, 801 Commerce Street, Perry, Georgia 31069.
John was born in Montezuma to the late Leslie R. and Nina Johnson Williams. John loved sports, not only watching, but also participating, and played on various intramural, community, and travel teams through the years. He worked for Georgia Power for thirty years, retiring at age 55. An avid fan of the Georgia Bulldogs and the Atlanta Braves, John enjoyed attending games in Athens and Atlanta when he could. He was a long-time member of Perry United Methodist Church and a member of the IHS Sunday School Class. Each week, he attended the Men’s Tuesday Morning Prayer Group with Christian men from all over the community who gathered to share concerns and pray. After being retired for several years, John took the position as Building Superintendent at his home church, PUMC, where he worked for fifteen years until his health would no longer allow him to work. He was a true Southern gentleman, very generous and always helping and supporting others, particularly those in need. John’s greatest passion throughout his life was his family who will miss him dearly.
John was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and a brother.
Left to cherish the memories they made with John are his loving and devoted wife of sixty years, Peggie Hammock Williams; his son, Jeff Williams of Ellaville; his daughter, Ginger Walton of Chesapeake, Virginia; his grandchildren, Zach Williams (Lea’), Joshua O’Cain, and Kelsey O’Cain; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Condolences for the family may be left in the online guestbook at www.watsonhunt.com. Watson-Hunt Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
