John M Jackson, 79, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, March 21, 2013. Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday at the Alabama Heritage Funeral Home in Montgomery , Alabama with interment in the cemetery. A visitation will be held from 4 - 6 p.m. at Watson-Hunt Funeral Home in Perry on Saturday.
The family suggests contributions to the Juvenille Diabetes Research Foundation, 26 Broadway, New York, NY 10004.
Mr. Jackson, was born in Glenwood, Al and was the son of the late Marcus B. and Julia Jackson. He had lived in Perry for 6 years moving from Montgomery. A US Navy Veteran, he served during the Korean Conflict. After service, he worked in plumbing most of his life and was the owner/operator of Jackson Plumbing for 30 years in Montgomery. He was a graduate of Luverene High School and attended Auburn University. Mr. Jackson was the past president of the Plumbing, Heating and Cooling Contractors of Alabama. He served as a Lobbyist for the Plumbing Contractors and was on the Planning and Zoning Commission for Montgomery.
Mr. Jackson had a love of horses and was a lifetime member of the Alabama Quarter Horse Association and was a past president. He was involved in breeding, raising, and showing horses and had been a judge. Another love of John's was raising Black Augus Cattle and he had several herds during his years in Al.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 59 years, Dell Thomas Jackson of Perry, his daughters, Karen Rabren (Donnie) of Auburn, Alabama and Lisa Bissell (Jamie) of Perry; brother, Gene Jackson (Martha) of Dothan, grandchildren, Krista Riebling (Brant) of Mobile, Audrey Smith (Travis) of Hawaii, and Tripp Rabren of Auburn, great grandchild, Ansley Riebling.
