John Henry Houser's Obituary

John Henry Houser, Sr., 93, passed away at his residence on Tuesday, July 22, 2014. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, July 29, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at Perry United Methodist Church. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery immediately following the service. Reverend Roland Fall will officiate. Visitation will be held from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m., the hour prior to the service, in the Fellowship Hall of the church.
Mr. Houser was a life long resident of Houston County and the son of the late Sam Pooser Houser and Katherine Hodge Houser. He married the love of his life, Beverly Ann Matthews, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Matthews, of Fort Valley, GA in December of 1944. He was veteran of World War II, an Army Corps Bomber Pilot, serving for thirteen months in the Pacific Theater of Operations, in the Fifth Air Corps, the 38th Bomb Group, 822 Squadron. Shortly after his return to Perry, he assumed command of a yet to be formed, Army Georgia National Guard Company. He served command of a Cannon Company, a Regimental Heavy Mortar Company. He served command of a Cannon Company, a Regimental Heavy Mortar Company, and finally a Tank Company and was instrumental in having an Armory being built on the property of Old Perry Rifles. Mr. Houser was a second generation builder, and for almost forty years was owner of Houser Construction Company. Shortly after retiring from the National Guard and the construction business, he accepted a part time job as Manager of Perry-Houston County Airport, where he worked for nine years. He was a member of Perry United Methodist Church, a charter member of The Howell Cobb Sunday School Class, a charter member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce, and a past member of the Kiwanis Club, American Legion, VFW, and Rotary Club. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Jeanne Houser and Catherine Borders.
Left to cherish the memories of Mr. Houser are his loving wife of nearly 70 years, Ann M. Houser of Perry; his sons, John Houser, Jr. of Perry and Matt Houser (LuAnne) of Montgomery, Alabama.
