John W. Aydlett's Obituary
John W Aydlett, Sr., 86, passed away on Tuesday, February 6, 2018. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 9, 2018, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Watson-Hunt Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, February10, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Perry. Entombment will be in the Good Shepherd Mausoleum in Perry Memorial Gardens immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions to First Baptist Church of Perry or the American Cancer Society. Mr. Aydlett was born in Elizabeth City, NC, grew up there and in Charleston, SC, then moved to Perry in 1960. He was a hard-worker all of his life and was the owner and operator of John’s GMC, John’s Amoco Service Center, and John’s Radiator, all in Perry. Mr. Aydlett was a former member of the Exchange Club. He earned his small-plane pilot’s license and enjoyed flying. “Mr. John,” as the kids lovingly referred to him, drove a school bus for the Houston County Board of Education for 7 years and for Westfield School for 15 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Perry for 35 years and was also a member of the Jimmy Teresi Sunday School Class. Mr. Aydlett was preceded in death by his parents, Elijah and Lorena Aydlett; his siblings, Frances Turner, Elijah Aydlett, Jr., Oswald Aydlett, Shirley Aydlett, and Herbert Aydlett; a daughter Patricia Madison; and his wives, Joan Aydlett and Evelyn Aydlett;. Left to cherish the memories of Mr. Aydlett are his loving and devoted wife of 15 years, Peggy Aydlett; his children, Jay Aydlett, Karen Rigdon (Bill), and Allison Horne; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; his siblings, Katherine Johnson, Mildred Mercer, William Aydlett, Ray Aydlett, Jean Tarkington, Carolyn Simpson, and Chris Aydlett; and dozens of nieces and nephews.
