JOE PEAKE's Obituary
PERRY –
Joseph Clifton Peake, Jr., age 80, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 22, 2022. At his request, there will be no services.
Born in Bethel, Ohio, Joe grew up in Eaton, Ohio, a small town in southwestern Ohio. Following graduation from high school, Joe proudly served his country in the United States Army. He was a paratrooper, known as a Screaming Eagle, in the 101st Airborne Division. Joe was always very proud of his military service, and he had a strong patriotic love for this country. Joe and his wife, Fran, moved to Perry, Georgia, in 1974, and made their home together, raising two sons, Tripp and Doug. Joe was a wonderful husband, and his boys could not have asked for a better father. He enjoyed the little things so much more than the superficial materialistic things that so many people get hung up on. He enjoyed oldies rock-n-roll music, local sporting events, watching a good movie with a bag of Doritos, and most of all, spending quality time with his family. He was friendly, supportive, and hard-working. Joe never missed a ballgame in which either of his sons played, he taught every kid in the neighborhood to play pool and ping-pong, and his foul shot record from the driveway basketball court still stands. He loved animals (they talked to him), he had a witty sense of humor, and he had many life-long good friends. Joe lived his life by the motto, “It’s nice to be important, but it’s more important to be nice.” In a single word, Joe was just cool. He will be missed terribly by all those who knew and loved him.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Clifton Peake, Sr., and Alma Faskey Peake; and his brother, Doug Peake.
Left to cherish the memories they made with Joe are his loving and devoted wife of fifty-five years, Fran Peake of Perry; his sons and daughters-in-law, Tripp and Emily Peake of Cumming, and Doug and Ashlee Peake of Bonaire; his grandchildren, Caroline Peake, Whitney Peake, Sara Cate Peake, Zoe Decker, Kai Decker, Greyson Peake, and Charlotte Peake; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Suzy and Kenneth Tanner of Americus, and Donna and King Johnson of Perry; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Condolences for the family may be left in the online guestbook at www.watsonhunt.com. Watson-Hunt Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
