Joe Franklin Crawford's Obituary
PERRY-Joe Franklin Crawford, 75, passed away on Tuesday, August 2, 2016, after a brave battle with cancer. Local Funeral Services will be on Thursday, August 4, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. at Rehoboth Baptist Church. Visitation will also be on Thursday from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m., the hour preceding the service, in the sanctuary. The family will visit with friends on Friday, August 5, 2016, from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Weldon Haddix Funeral Home in Albany, Kentucky. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, August 6, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel at Weldon Haddix Funeral Home. Interment will be in Caney Branch Church Cemetery immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions to Berea College or the Elephant Sanctuary.Mr. Crawford was born in Clinton County, Kentucky, to the late Robert and Lena Craft Crawford. He proudly served our country stateside during the Vietnam War in the U S Air Force. He earned a Bachelor's Degree in Economics from Berea College. Joe had lived in middle Georgia for over 40 years and was an Assistant Manager with K-Mart Corporation for 20 years. A Master Gardener, he spent many hours gardening and nurturing the creations by God into beautiful plants and flowers of which he was so proud. He enjoyed reading, listening to all genres of music, was fascinated with elephants, and delighted in collecting various kinds of elephants. Joe's greatest passion in life, however, was spending time with his grandchildren and attending the activities in which they were involved. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Roberta Wilson and Geneta Butler; a niece, Barbara Lehman; a nephew, Leon Wilson; brother-in-law, John Mark Hamrick.Left to cherish the memories of Poppa Joe are his loving wife, Claire Anne Crawford of Perry; his daughter, Saleha Wowaka (Nick) of Perry, GA, and Albany, KY; his son, Joseph Crawford (Kristin) of Davenport, IA; his brother-in-law, Jim Hamrick (Joyce) of Kathleen, GA; his sister-in-law, Jama Wilson of Kansas City, MO; his grandchildren, Amanda, Taylor, and Sarah Svoboda, Elizabeth and Tamara Wowaka, and Jack, Jonah, and Henry Crawford; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces, and great-great-nephews.
