JIMMILU LEVERETTE's Obituary
MONTGOMERY, ALABAMA –
Jimmilu Dennard Leverette, formerly of Perry, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 8, 2025, after an extended illness. She was 87 years old. Graveside Services will be held on Thursday, August 14, 2025, in Walnut Cemetery in Unadilla, Georgia. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions to Respite for All Foundation, P. O. Box 6178, Montgomery, Alabama 36106, or respiteforall.org/donate.
Jimmilu was born in Perry, Georgia, to the late James David Dennard and Emmitt Louise Brannen Dennard. After graduating from Unadilla High School, she went on to further her education at Middle Georgia College. She served as a cheerleader and was involved in many campus activities. While at Middle Georgia College, she met the love of her life, Joe Byrd Leverette, and they were married September 9, 1956. After a short time in Atlanta, they moved to Perry to be closer to family and friends. In 1970, Joe’s job transferred them to Montgomery, Alabama, and they moved with their three children. While in Montgomery, they purchased a second home at Lake Martin, Alabama, where they hosted friends and family gatherings through the years, celebrating many various happy occasions, and simply spending time there when they could. A multitude of cherished memories were shared, and their children and grandchildren continue the tradition of good times at Lake Martin.
In 1983, the Leverettes moved back to Perry Georgia, and they truly loved being back “home.” Jimmilu delighted in spending time with friends, dancing, hosting parties, playing bridge, and talking and visiting for countless hours with family and friends. She was a long-time member and former officer of the Beltista Club of Perry, a ladies’ service organization. Jimmilu loved all things Perry/Unadilla! But most of all, she cherished her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and the times spent with them. After losing Joe in 2020, Jimmilu moved to Lake Martin to be closer to her family who lovingly cared for her in the final years of her life. That special time and care meant the world to Jimmilu. She will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her.
Jimmilu was preceded in death by her parents; her loving and devoted husband of sixty-four years, Joe Byrd Leverette; her sisters, Joanne Raspberry, June Loper, and Rose Speight; and her daughter-in-law, Jennifer Leverette.
Left to cherish the memories they made with “Lu-Lu” are her children, Dave Leverette of Dothan, Alabama, Debra Leverette Calhoun (Duane) of Trussville, Alabama, and Donna Rose Leverette Hughes (Scott) of Montgomery, Alabama; her grandchildren, Chris Leverette (Dava), Stuart Leverette (Jennifer), Ava Leverette, Brooke Legg (Blake), Haley Stan (Mario), Hannah Tomberlin (Cameron), and Olivia Hughes; her great-grandchildren, David Leverette, Emma Kate Leverette, Chase Foster, and Baylor Legg; her brother Jay Dennard (Margaret) of Martin, Georgia; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Condolences for the family may be left in the online guestbook at www.watsonhunt.com. Watson-Hunt Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
