Jerry L. Huff's Obituary
ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, FLORIDA –
Jerry Leslie Huff, 71, passed away peacefully with family on Friday, April 30, 2021, in Advent Healthcare Hospice, Altamonte Springs, Florida after a brief illness. All services are private.
Jerry was born to the late Lee Harold and Harriet Thompson Huff in Perry, Georgia, at Dr. Gallemore’s Clinic. He served his country in the United States Navy 1968 through 1972, ported primarily in the Mediterranean. He was trained in computer sciences in Virginia Beach, VA and in business administration at Santa Fe College in Gainesville, FL. In 1976, subsequent to having maintained financial and insurance programs for Florida Farm Bureau, Jerry began developing software and managing a team of programmers for the Alachua County, FL offices of Property Appraiser, Tax Collector, and Voter Registration. Following early State of Florida retirement in 1990, he joined Kb Systems, Inc. of Clearwater, FL as a Senior Systems Analyst designing computer-aided mass appraisal software, transferred to Lake Mary, FL upon purchase of the software by HTE, Inc., was employed by TerraSoft Systems of Clearwater, FL as a Senior Software Engineer upon their acquisition of the software and then by Novalis Technologies of Halifax, Nova Scotia when they purchased the software. In 2004, he joined Vital Works, Inc. of Daytona Beach, FL developing medical billing software and, upon the company’s acquisition by Cerner Corporation, he transferred to Cerner’s World Headquarters Campus in Kansas City. In 2019, he retired to return to Central Florida.
An avid outdoor enthusiast and nature lover, Jerry was a certified SCUBA diver, a licensed private pilot, and a seasoned Florida off-shore boater and fisherman, serving on the Board of Directors of the Gainesville Offshore Fishing Club and designing and maintaining a saltwater living reef aquarium for his family’s enjoyment. Upon retirement, he fulfilled his dream of further exploring the waters of the St. John’s River and converted to both freshwater boating and tackle. He enjoyed outdoor cooking and grilling and cultivated herbs used in special recipes for entertaining friends and family on the patio. He also loved his walks with the family’s Jack Russell Terrier, JoJo, at his side.
Preceded in death by his parents, Jerry is survived by his wife of more than 30 years, Janet W. Rackley, sister Selena Pace (Danny) and daughters Leslie Whacker (Pete) and Amanda Dixson.
