Jean Isabel Jackson's Obituary
Jean Isabel Jackson6/9/1923 - 3/19/2016 Mrs. Jean Bennett Jackson., a resident of Bayou La Batre, Alabama, departed this life to be with the Lord on March 19, 2016. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Andrew Lee Jackson, Sr., her parents, Otis and Helen Bennett, and her brothers. She is survived by her children Billy Nelson (Geneabeth), Sharon Collier (Chester), Andy Jackson Jr. (Glenda), Carol Ann Weston (Chuck) and Teddy Jackson (Rachael), 16 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and countless faithful friends. Jean Jackson was a kind, lovely lady and faithful servant for the Lord. She enjoyed teaching Sunday School, helping with children’s camp, and working in Vacation Bible School. She believed in Jesus Christ and the power of His sacrifice for salvation. She also believed in the power of prayer, loved her neighbors, and was a shining example of faith. She was married to the love of her life for 64 years and was a devoted wife and mother. She enjoyed hunting and camping, and was quite accomplished with a needle and thread. Her cross-stitching was pure perfection and she crafted keepsakes for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren that are now treasured heirlooms. She enjoyed crossword puzzles and reading, especially her Bible. She loved Atlanta Braves baseball, and cherished family gatherings, surrounded by her children and grandchildren. Jean taught her offspring that “pretty is as pretty does.” And she lived by those words—a rare beauty, inside and out. She was a proud American and a member of “The Greatest Generation” of our country. Jean’s life is a testimony to the people who loved her. She loved her husband, Andy, truly and completely, and is quoted as saying, “You must love your partner and helpmate. That’s what it takes. That’s all it takes. Love is always enough." Mrs. Jackson was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Bayou La Batre, AL for many years. Her wake will be held from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. in the chapel at First Baptist Church in Bayou La Batre, 13500 N. Wintzell Ave., and her funeral service will follow immediately at 2:00 p.m. The interment will follow at Oddfellows Cemetery. Arrangements by Serenity Funeral Home.
