JANICE STRONG BEMBRY's Obituary

Janice Lea Strong Bembry, 77, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, after an extended illness. Friends and family are invited to Celebrate her life on Sunday, February 25, 2024, from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. at the home of her son, Baskin Bembry, 201 Scarlett Drive, Warner Robins, GA 31088. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions to assist with the unexpected costs of services so soon after losing their father in June 2023. To make donations, please visit or send to Watson-Hunt Funeral Home, P. O. Box 52, 1208 Main Street, Perry, GA 31069.
Janice was born on October 5, 1946, in Perry to the late William Carey Strong and the late Orita Lashley Strong. A graduate of Unadilla High School, she married the love of her life, Paul Bembry, at a young age. She worked hard to create a loving and encouraging environment in which to raise their five children. Early on, she satisfied a long-time interest in aviation and earned her license to fly solo as a pilot in small-engine planes. After the kids were all in school, Janice decided to return to school, herself, while simultaneously working at Buckeye (now Proctor & Gamble). She received her undergraduate degree in Education from Fort Valley State University and taught Biology, Physical Science, and other science focused classes at Dooly County High School. She continued her education to include Criminal Justice curriculum at Mercer University and the University of Georgia. After teaching, Janice shifted her career to corrections and worked as a State Correctional Officer in Wilcox State Prison and retired after over twenty years of service. Her love of marine biology continued throughout her life, as she thoroughly enjoyed aquariums, freshwater and saltwater. Janice cared for and nurtured marine life through aquariums, of which she owned three one-hundred-gallon tanks and several smaller tanks at her home, raising wide varieties of sea life.
Janice was preceded in death by her parents; her loving and devoted husband of fifty-nine years, Paul J. Bembry, Jr.; a son, Snyder Strong Bembry; and two of her sisters, Pam Strong Kersey and Kerry Strong Mason.
Left to cherish the memories they made with Janice are her children, Staci Bembry Wheeler (Danny) of Perry, Paul Jackson “Tracee” Bembry, III of Sanford, NC, Baskin Bembry (Dana) of Warner Robins, and Janice Lea Bembry, Jr. of Unadilla; twelve grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; her sister, Cindy Strong Bragg of Perry; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Condolences for the family may be left in the online guestbook at www.watsonhunt.com. Watson-Hunt Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
