Jan Brown Crawford's Obituary
SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS-
Jan Brown Crawford, formerly of Cartersville, GA, died peacefully on Monday, February 9, 2015. Jan was born August 22, 1945, in Perry, GA, to the late Marion and Caroline Nunn Brown. She grew up in Perry and attended Perry schools. She graduated from Mercer University with a Bachelor's Degree in Education. She then moved to Cartersville, where she stated her family and taught French at Cass High School until she retired. While there, she received a Teacher of the Year award. Jan was a member of Trinity United Mehtodist Church, was active in her church, and especially loved singing in the choir, which she did for many years. Her joy of music was evident in many ways; along with her choir, she also belonged to two singing groups. The first group was Back Porch Revival. She sang and played her stand up bass each time they performed. This group came to Perry United Methodist Church, her home church, and performed a great program. After this group no longer played together, she joined another group from her church, the Trinity Gospel Group. Their group played whenever and wherever they were invited. Jan also loved acting and being in plays. She also loved to write and always entertained her family. At Christmas, she and her cousin, Mary Sue, would get together and write funny stories and poems about each member of the Brown and Nunn families. She was a very loving mother, daughter, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, teacher, and friend. Jan was always there if anyone needed her, ready to help in any way she could. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Larry Brown.
Jan leaves behind a loving son, Chad Crawford of Bartlesville, OK; her brother, George Nunn Brown (Sybil) of Perry; sister-in-law, Karen Roberson Brown of San Antonio, TX; a nephew, Pat Brown (Laurie) of Winston-Salem, NC; a niece, Lisa Adams (Al) of Fenton, MO; a nephew, Norman Parker (Mary) of Ft. Collins, CO; a niece, Pam Rushing (Ron) of Statesboro, GA; nine great-nieces and great-nephews; and her best friend, Warren Kennedy of Cartersville, GA.
Graveside Services will be held on Saturday, February 14, 2015, at 3:00 p.m. at Perry Memorial Gardens in Perry, GA. Reverend Roland Fall will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations to the Music Fund at Trinity United Methodist Church, 814 West Avenue, Cartersville, GA 30120.
