PERRY-
James William McGahhey, 69, passed away on Wednesday, August 27, 2014, surrounded by his loving family at his residence. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, August 30, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at Free Point Church. Interment will be on Tuesday, September 2, 2014, at 2:30 p.m. in Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Milldgeville. The family will visit with friends on Friday, August 29, 2014, from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Watson-Hunt Funeral Home.
James was born in Rosebud, Arkansas, to the late Frank and Willie Lafoon McGahhey. He proudly served our country in the U. S. Army. He worked for Northrop (which later became Northrup-Grumman) in Hawthorne, California, and was transferred to Perry, Georgia, in 1991. He retired as a Lead Drivematic Operator from Northrup-Grumman/Vought Aircraft Division. James loved the game of football - playing, watching, and coaching - through the years. He volunteered as a football and softball coach when his son was a young athlete. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and was proud to be a Mason and a Shriner. James enjoyed spending time with his family, which was his greatest treasure. He was preceded in death by parents and his brother, Kenny McGahhey.
Left to cherish the memories of James are his loving wife of 19 years, Jo Ann Cohoon VanZant McGahhey; his children, Shelly Ferguson (Herman) of Bilton, Virginia, Tony McGahhey of Springdale, Arkansas, Michael McGahhey of Torrance, California, and Richard VanZant (Alaina) and Chrystal Wade, both of Perry; 8 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; his siblings, Judy McGahhey, Ronnie McGahhey, and Brenda Russell, all of Springdale, Arkansas; and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend warmest appreciation to Heart of Georgia Hospice and all of their friends who have been praying for James during his illness.
Friends are invited to leave condolences for the family in the online guestbook at www.watsonhunt.com. Watson-Hunt Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
