James Florence Long's Obituary
MARSHALLVILLE-
James Florence Long, "Little Jim" 59, was born on September 13, 1953, and passed away on February 17, 2013. He was born in Cartersville, Georgia, the beloved special child of Anne Lane Long of Rome, Georgia, and the late James F. Long, Jr. of Cartersville, Georgia. An alumnus of Gracewood State School and Hospital, he also worked at Georgia Diversified Industries in Cartersville for 20 years. His parents, Anne and Jimmy Long, were pioneers in the founding of the first Kindergarten for mentally retarded children in the Cartersville City School System, which was supported by the Longs and other dedicated parents. Jim was a sweet and gentle soul who loved Disney, the Muppets, Wizard of Oz, Country music, Big Macs, and pretty women. He inspired the best human qualities in those around him.
Survivors include his mother; Anne Lane Long of Rome, Georgia; his sister; Sallie Long Sirmon, and her husband, Bill Sirmon, of Fort Valley, Georgia; his sister; Martha Anne Long Alvis, and her husband, Scott Alvis, of Phoenix, Arizona; his brother, Charles Mitchell Long of Rome, Georgia; two nieces; Joy Sirmon Watkins & Linda Haygood Ladig; and one nephew, Sgt. John Lane Sirmon, USMC.
