James 'Jim' Funderburk's Obituary
GROVANIA -
James "Jim" Funderburk, 76, passed away on Wednesday, November 5, 2014 at his residence.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, November 7, 2014, at 3:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Haynesville. Interment will be in the church cemetery immediately following the service. Visitation will be held on Friday from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m., the hour preceding the service at the church.
Mr. Funderburk was born in Alexander City, Alabama, to the late Robert and Jennie Cason Funderburk. Early in life, he worked in the rodeo circuits in Montana and Canada to make money to support his family. He even spent time "breaking" horses for additional income to support the family he loved so much. Jim was drafted and served in the United States Army with the 82nd Airborne Division. In the late 1960's, he moved his family to Houston County to be near his parents and help take care of them in their later years. A general contractor most of his life, he began working at Three Kings in the early 1980's and continued working there for many years. His legacy will live through the buildings he worked on through the years including the Wimberly Plantation in Haynesville, The Train Depot in Perry (now Walker Insurance), and "The Pink House" (now The Swanson) in downtown Perry. He was preceded in death by siblings, Sarah Jean Ross, Tom Funderburk, Leon Funderburk, and Reginald Funderburk; and one grandson, Corey Funderburk.
Left to cherish the memories of Jim are his loving wife, Mary Funderburk; his children, Susan F. Sammons and her husband, Johnny, and her children, Jesse Sammons and Matthew Sammons; Edwin Funderburk (Glenda), Billy Funderburk (Margo), Ricky Funderburk, and Kim Nelson (Steve); his siblings, Joe Funderburk (Keiko) and Patricia Ann Throgmorton (Jerry); nine grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren.
Condolences may be left for the family in the online guestbook at www.watsonhunt.com. Watson-Hunt Funeral Home in Perry has been entrusted with the arrangements.
