JACKIE DAVID "J.D." STANLEY's Obituary
MARSHALLVILLE –
Jackie David “J.D.” Stanley, 76, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, November 9, 2022. At J.D.’s request, a private service will be held by his family atop Fort Mountain in Chatsworth, Georgia. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions to FOPAS, Friends of Perry Animal Shelter, 204 Kellwood Drive, Perry, GA 31069.
J.D. lived in Houston County most of his life and graduated from Perry High School in 1965. He began studying Drafting at Falls College of Atlanta, but joined the U.S. Air Force before he could complete his studies. He proudly served our country in Vietnam as Crew Chief of C-130 and returned to civilian life after three years. J.D. began working for GTE in 1969, and continued his career with Alltel and Winstream. While his boys were young, he took on Boy Scout Troop 96 as the Leader, revived the troop to the top in the state, and led each of his own sons to Eagle Scout. In 2001, he and his family moved to their home in Macon County for them to enjoy the country life. After working every day for forty-four years, J.D. retired in 2013. He loved tending to and playing with the horses and other animals, and especially loved his dogs. J.D.’s biggest treasure was his family. At holidays and special occasions, his home would fill with his children and grandchildren, providing him great joy and much love.
J.D. was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh Dorsey Underwood and Effie Mae Souther Underwood; four brothers; and two sisters.
Left to cherish the memories they made with J.D. are his loving and devoted wife of twenty-seven years, Linda Neal Stanley of Marshallville; his children, Rob Stanley of Perry, Eric Stanley (Amanda) of Raleigh, NC, Brad Stanley (April) of Perry, Brian Eddins of Marshallville, and Cathryn Bland (Guy) of Luray, SC; twelve grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters; a brother; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews; his coon-hound, Stoney; his shepherd, Piper; and his poodle, Maggie.
Condolences for the family may be left in the online guestbook at www.watsonhunt.com. Watson-Hunt Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
