HILDA MERRITT COGAR STOETZEL's Obituary
AUGUSTA –
Hilda Tate Merritt Cogar Stoetzel passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 20, 2024. Graveside Services will be held on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at 1:30 p.m. at Christ’s Sanctified Holy Church Cemetery in Perry. Dr. Rob Collier will officiate.
Hilda was born in Birmingham, Alabama, to the late John Jackson Tate, and the late Fannie Brush Rogers. She was a long-time member of Christ’s Sanctified Holy Church. Hilda was a devout student of God’s word. She spent the first hour of every day reading and studying the Bible. She loved to entertain, especially her Sunday School friends. Hilda was an avid gardener and was happiest when her hands were in the dirt.
Mrs. Hilda was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Merritt, Jr.; her sister, Esther Ruth Tate Collins; her husband, Charlie Cogar; her brother, John Jackson Tate Jr.; her husband, Paul Stoetzel; and a son-in-law, Sammy Walker.
Left to cherish the memories they made with Mrs. Hilda are her children, Shirley Merritt Myrick (Billy) of Knightdale, NC, Paul “Sonny” Merritt (Marilyn) of Augusta, and Robyn Merritt Walker of Augusta; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; her special friend, Holly Stincer (Dr. KiKi) of Martinez, GA; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
