GLENN HARVEY "G.H." DUCKWORTH JR.'s Obituary
PERRY –
Glenn Harvey “G.H.” Duckworth, Jr., 85, passed away early in the morning on Sunday, March 24, 2024. His wishes were for a private graveside service for family and close friends. The family requests this to be honored.
Born at home in a small house in Tifton, Georgia, G.H. lived and worked on the family farm in Tifton most of his younger years. In his teens, he moved to Perry with his family where he attended Perry High School. He was a standout football player and graduated from Perry High in 1956. After high school, he moved to Pennsylvania to help his brother-in-law. There, G.H. met and married the love of his life, Joyce Arlene Jones, and shortly thereafter, the couple moved to Perry. He accepted a job with Civil Service at Robins Air Force Base where he worked repairing radars for over twenty years. After taking an early retirement, G.H. began operating Glenn’s Gun and Trolling Motor Repair from his home. He had a reputation as the best gunsmith and trolling motor repairman in Middle Georgia and was well-known. Many hunters through the years were successful and claimed many trophies due to Glenn’s knowledge of guns. G.H. was also an avid hunter and fisherman, himself. He also took great pride in having the prettiest and most productive garden around. Every year, he filled his freezers with wild game and many vegetables to feed his family and friends all year long. He passed his love for these things to his family by giving them the examples of hard work and persistence, as well as teaching them “hands-on” the best methods and techniques for success.
G.H. was a man of honor and integrity. You could “take his word to the bank,” and his handshake on a deal was as good as a signed contract. He stood firm in his beliefs, never wavering, and always said, “There is right, and there is wrong…no in-between.” He was a family man who believed in traditional family values. Many times, G.H. worked two jobs, so his wife, Joyce, could stay home and raise their children. He was always proud that he was able to provide for his sons’ private education doing this. G.H. loved his wife and family. He especially loved his young grandchildren and great-grandchildren as they always put a smile on his face, no matter how bad he felt. Glenn was blessed with a loving and devoted wife who put him at the top of her priorities and cooked him three meals a day for the entirety of their marriage. Dessert, which Joyce always prepared, was his favorite thing to eat, and he would often eat as much dessert as he had eaten at the meal.
Left to cherish the memories they made with G.H. are his beloved wife, Joyce Arlene Duckworth; his sons and daughters-in-law, Glenn Tyrone and Jackie Duckworth, and Darryl Bryan and Angie Duckworth; six grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and numerous other family members and friends.
In some obituaries, people may have to think of good things to say about a person. There are too many good things to list about G.H. So many people thought the world of him, even those who only knew him through business dealings. He was fair and honest in all his dealings in business and in life. He was someone you were proud to call a friend.
The family would like to thank everyone for their calls and support during this trying time in our lives. Like the song says, “We thought, he walked on water.”
Condolences for the family may be left in the online guestbook at www.watsonhunt.com. Watson-Hunt Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
