GLADYS McINTYRE BONNER's Obituary
ST. AUGUSTINE, FL –
Mrs. Gladys McIntyre Bonner passed away peacefully on Friday, August 23, 2024, the day following her 100th birthday. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, August 31, 2024, at Watson-Hunt Funeral Home in Perry, Georgia. Visitation will be held from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m., and the funeral will begin at 3:00 p.m. Burial will take place in Woodlawn Cemetery, also in Perry, immediately following the service.
Gladys was born on August 22, 1924, in Abbeville, Alabama, to the late Willie James and Annie Lee Aultman McIntyre. A homemaker all her life, she worked continuously to create a caring and encouraging environment in which to raise her family. During the war, she worked in the steel shipyard. While working as “the Avon Lady,” she enjoyed many benefits, met people from all walks of life, and received several awards for her sales efforts throughout her lifetime. She was so proud to be a member of the Avon President’s Club. She was friends with everyone and never met a stranger. Gladys was a long-time member of Northview United Methodist Church in Warner Robins, where she volunteered at the church thrift store. A pillar of the community, she enjoyed serving around town wherever needed. Gladys loved to bake cakes for friends and families; it made her smile, inside and out, to see her delicious cakes being enjoyed. Gladys was a wonderful role model for her family and others around her by being the example of a caring person and true friend. She was born to serve, and that she did. She maintained a positive attitude and never said anything negative about anyone. Her family was her greatest treasure in life and spending time with them always made her happy.
Gladys was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of twenty-four years, Grover Bonner; her siblings, JD McIntyre, Ruth Wood, Bernice McIntyre, and Sula Layson.
Left to cherish the memories they made with Gladys are her caring and devoted daughter and son-in-law, Tammy Bonner and Jerry Hayman of St. Augustine, FL; her grandchildren, Brandy Nelson (Jeff) of St. Augustine, FL, and Jake Butts of Byron; five great-grandchildren, Jacquelyn Beale (Kris), Erin Chowning, Hannah White (Corey), Adelyn Butts, and Amelia Butts; six great-great-grandchildren; her brother, Harris McIntyre; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Condolences for the family may be left in the online guestbook at www.watsonhunt.com. Watson-Hunt Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
